emiT Minutes 02-06-02

Present: JFW, HPM, LPP, KMS, AKT, KPC, FEW, SJF, KPC, TC, AK

1. NIST Reactor

No new news on the reactor. Still expect low level running by mid march.

2. Magnetic Fields

There exists a significant longitudinal component to the magnetic field. However transverse component is not signifcant.

We should consider having our own equipment to monitor the magnetic fields, especially for when the Harvard group comes on.

Kevin mentioned Mich. Buying a 3-axis Probe.

3. Assembly

Assembly of the beamline has commenced to ensure no parts are missing

Wall is not yet built. All of the necessary shielding is there, however last run an excessive amount of sheilding was used. It still needs to be decided, how much sheilding can be toned down.

Detectors

One motherboard is made, four more are needed. Piet will make them when Cadence (software package) is working again -hopefully this week.

Still awaiting preamps. Modifacations are being made to them so they will work at the desired low temperatures. Test pieces look good so far. They are expected to be finished by next week.

Vaccuum protons have been seen at HV, but are not a very useful diagnostic -peak is sometimes there/sometimes not and moves around

Measured accidental background: 7E-6 Hz

Alejandro will come next thursday to help setup/run proton source for further testing.

Still need spare fiber optic IO board

High leakage current on paddle may have damaged detectors last run. We should consider building a leakage interlock to kill HV

High Voltage

We still have problem with digital voltmeter. No fix yet.

Beta-detectors

Still need bases. Stewart says new bases won't be ready for some time. We may have to run with old ones.

Still need power supply. We should consider changing the power supply to a similar one which NCD uses. It has better control and better monitoring.

Stewart should ship the power supply to WA

DAQ

Mark is working full time on emiT version of the Sharc code.

Consider replacing 8 camac, 4 TDC, and 4 ADC with 32 channel ADC and 32 channel TDC in VME

Consider using 100 MHz clock for slow TDC. We could buy a commercial one, or modify one of our shaper boards in about a week.

Miscellaneous

We have a moving truck reserved for end of month

Pieter's Prophecy

"next week we should have all four motherboards running"

"...all set up and ready to go before proton source arrives"
